| This organization is committed to promoting the Mohonasen Music community. All music groups benefit from their support whether from refreshments for a trip or meeting, purchase of instruments and supplies or college scholarships.
Strong elementary programs continuously send well prepared, enthusiastic performers to the Middle school and, ulitmately to the High School. Mohonasen students are well known in the Capital District and beyond for the quality of their performances. Many of the groups perform in the community at places and events including The Boys and Girls Club, Schenectady's Central Park, nursing homes, The Empire State Plaza and numerous parades, just to name a few.
The Marching Band and Color Guard perform in many local and regional competitions culminating at the Syracuse Carrier Dome. The choir and orchestra attend professional concerts in NYC. The orchestra also competes in Lake George with a trip to the Great Escape thrown in for fun. Some of the high school groups take an extended spring trip combining national competition and fun in the sun.
Imagine all that can be learned in two weeks of intense rehearsal over the summer. Some of the elementary teachers also hold well attended summer camps. Students learned to play in small groups and began to write their own musical pieces. Middle School and High school orghestra students played in quartets and quintets in an evening concert after two weeks of camp.
August Band camp begins to prepare the High School Band and Color Guard for the fall season of competitions and parades.
Please join us in the Mohonasen Music Parents Association to continue to partner with our Mohonasen Music Department in its efforts to teach our children the love of music! Students who are a part of Music at Mohonasen become part of a group that is stong, inviting and long-lasting. Any parent, grand-parent or guardian of a student that is a member of the band, orchestra or choir at any level can become a member. Attend a meeting to find out what we are about!
